Title contender

Since the closure of its coal mines, the town of Baesweiler has experienced a remarkable turnaround. Today the town and region present an attractive proposition for up-and-coming businesses from around the world. At the forefront is the CAP Businessliga, part of Carl Alexander Park, the first EuRegionale 2008 project to be completed. The park also offers access to nature and plenty of space for leisure activity in a high-quality environment. One year after its completion, the park has already scooped three prestigious awards:

• the European Garden Award for best contemporary park design
• the German Landscape Award
• the "Award for exceptional architecture in North-Rhine Westphalia"
